Rack n Stack specialises in providing tailored storage solutions for businesses that need to efficiently store a variety of products for sale or manufacturing. Their services cater to diverse storage needs, whether it involves pallets, hand stacking, or utilizing forklifts, to accommodate items of different sizes and weights, including long, short, heavy, or tall products.

As a company, they are committed to utilising their expertise and knowledge in a wide range of storage solutions, including industrial storage systems, display shelving through to garage shelving. Their primary objective is to assist all customers in effectively addressing their specific storage needs.

Their company culture is important to them and cycling makes up a large part of that. Many of their team are involved in cycling and they race as individuals or sometimes as a company team, and like to enjoy other adventures as a team where they can. They are also linked to the cycling community through sponsorship, and support – they currently have an Under 23 Female Mountain bike athlete who they support that is competing overseas.

Carl, the Director of Rack n Stack, spoke with us to share some of his experience working with the team at Velocite…

The connection to Velocite came from meeting Grant on a Melanoma Fundraiser in 2019 which was a two week jet ski trip going from Bluff (bottom of South Island) to Auckland. During talking to him, and getting to know each other, he let me know he provided strategic direction and support to businesses. This was something we were lacking with our accountant at that time, and had been struggling to get support with, along with large delays on receiving financial information in which meant we were unable to have a forward view, were always looking backwards and limited our ability to make changes at the time they were needed.

From there, we had an initial meeting where Grant asked questions to understand our business and what sort of support we required and that then grew into a business relationship.

At that time, we were focused too much “in the business” – we weren’t looking ahead to short term goals and set long-term plans so the support we needed, and received from Velocite was in stepping back, planning the path forward, and identifying the triggers to be pulled to achieve growth.

Specific services we have undertaken include Strategic Planning, Annual Planning (initial services), budgeting, Compliance Work, other Project Advisory, and has also grown into long-term personal planning including setting up other businesses and family trust.

We also carry out ongoing check-ins, and have regular updates which allow us to reset, review, change direction, and be fluid as required rather than reacting too late.

Except for the last financial year (due to business environment economic impacts), we have had consistent growth since working with Velocite.

While the business has grown, we have also been able to put things in place that have allowed Rebecca (Carl’s wife, co-owner, and Accounts Manager for the company) and myself to achieve things that we want to personally. Velocite’s support has allowed us to not only look at and achieve business needs but also our personal needs and goals, while still achieving that consistent business growth.

Grant and the Velocite team have allowed us to push beyond where we thought we would ever get to, beyond what we thought was the ceiling of the business including expansion to new products and team growth and development.

I have been very happy with how things have gone, and we are still on that journey – we are excited about what has been achieved and the things that we still have planned to achieve.
